Job Description:
Successful applicants will be enrolled in the 21-month Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP), which is divided into three training periods. The goal is to develop skilled, psychologically and physically healthy officers who can make a significant contribution to crime prevention and law enforcement throughout the country.
During training, selected candidates will:
- Get free training, accommodations, clothing, and food.
- Receive medical aid advantages.
- Complete physical, psychological, and academic training.
- Be placed at SAPS Academies nationwide.
- Upon successful completion, be considered for permanent appointment as a constable.

Requirements:
To be eligible for the SAPS Police Trainee Programme 2025/2026, candidates must satisfy the following requirements:
- You must be a South African citizen with permanent residency.
- Hold a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or comparable certification.
- Be aged between 18 and 35 years.
- Be fluent in English and at least one other official language.
- No criminal record or pending case.
- Be prepared to endure background and security checks.
- Prepare to undertake fitness, medical, and psychological exams.
- Not having visible tattoos when in uniform
- Be prepared to swear an oath of office
- Be prepared to serve at any police station or unit in South Africa.
- A valid driver’s license (Code B) will provide an edge.
Role Responsibility:
After training is completed, appointed Constables will fulfill the following duties:
- Prevent, combat, and investigate crime
- Maintain public order and ensure peace
- Protect the citizens and their property
- Enforce the law fairly and consistently
- Participate in crime prevention campaigns
- Collaborate with the judicial system and community stakeholders

Medical Requirements:

- Body Mass Index (BMI) not exceeding 30
- Males’ waist circumference should not exceed 102cm, while girls’ should not exceed 88cm.
- The disclosure of any chronic diseases or physical disabilities is necessary.
Important Notices:
- No remunerated labour in areas such as taxi, security, or liquor sectors is permitted.
- Applicants conducting business with the State must deregister before or within one month of enrollment.
- Failure to comply may result in the termination of the trainee agreement.
- DNA sample collection is a legal obligation under the Forensic Procedures Act.
Final Notes:
Only successful applicants will be notified. If there is no response within three months after the closing date, the application should be declared failed.
