City of Ekurhuleni is Hiring General Workers
The City of Ekurhuleni is seeking applications from dedicated and community-minded persons to participate in a Rodent Control Programme as General Workers. This ward-based initiative aims to enable individuals to actively contribute to improving public health and environmental conditions in their areas. The temporary position provides a hands-on chance to interact with other people through door-to-door campaigns, surveys, and health education.
Applicants must live in the ward where they will serve. The application paperwork should contain proof of domicile as well as the ward number.
Tasks
Successful applicants are required to complete the following responsibilities:
- Conduct door-to-door visits to a set number of houses in a given ward.
- Educate the community about rat management and other environmental health hazards.
- Distribute educational pamphlets and awareness material.
- Organize local neighbors for block meetings and educational efforts.
- Identify rodent-infested premises and provide follow-up reports.
- Liaise with Environmental Health Practitioners (EHPs).
- Participate in scheduled rodent control education campaigns.
- Report immediately to the Environmental Health Practitioner (your immediate boss).
- Meet a daily minimum inspection objective of 30 establishments.
- Complete and keep daily attendance registers for volunteer participation.
- Record data including:
- Number of premises visited
- Number of pamphlets distributed
- Identified rodent-infested premises
- Follow-up actions taken
- Conduct public health speeches and help manage attendance at educational programs.
Qualifications
To qualify for this opportunity, candidates must have:
- Minimum of Grade 10 certificate or equivalent qualification
- Be a resident of Ekurhuleni, dependent on the ward they will serve.
- Must attach proof of residency with a visible ward number on the paper.

Experience
- No previous job experience is necessary.
- Previous engagement in community service or public health projects will be beneficial.
- Basic communication and interpersonal skills are preferred.
