Job Purpose
The Tshwane Metro Police Department is looking for 200 Metro Police trainees. These trainees will get rigorous training at the TMPD Police Training Academy, preparing them for a variety of policing tasks within the city of Tshwane. The chosen candidates will work as functional metro police officers, accountable for:
- Traffic Policing: Enforcing traffic regulations under the 1996 National Road Traffic Act.
- Municipal By-Law Enforcement: Enforcing the municipality’s rules and regulations.
- Crime Prevention: Helping to prevent crime in the metropolitan region.

Key Requirements
To be considered for this great position, individuals must satisfy the following requirements:
1. Educational Requirements:
- A Grade 12 qualification (matric). Documentary proof must be given as part of the application procedure.
2. Valid Driving License:
- Applicants must have a valid driving license for a manual transmission car and pass a practical driving test administered by the TMPD.
3. No Criminal Record:
- Applicants must have no criminal history or ongoing criminal prosecutions. Candidates will be required to submit fingerprints to the TMPD at their own cost.
4. South African Citizenship & Residence:
- Applicants must be South African nationals and inhabitants of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Area. Proof of residency is required (together with an affidavit proving address if the surname differs from that of the registered owner).
5. Age:
- Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
6. Medical Fitness:
- Candidates must be medically fit to meet occupational health criteria. A medical certificate confirming the ability to engage in strenuous exercise is required.
7. Physical Fitness Evaluation:
- As part of the selection process, all candidates must undergo a physical fitness evaluation and assessment.
8. Psychometric Assessment:
- Applicants must be willing to go through and pass a psychometric assessment to determine their mental and emotional suitability for the position.
9. Language Proficiency:
- Candidates must be fluent in English and complete a language assessment test.
10. Firearm Competency:
- Candidates must not have been found incapable of possessing a firearm under the Firearms Control Act of 2000.
11. Visible Tattoos:
- Applicants should not have visible tattoos when wearing the TMPD uniform.
12. Code of Conduct:
- Successful candidates will be expected to sign and follow the TMPD’s Code of Conduct.
