JMPD Pointsmen/Patrollers 2025, Grade 10: The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is looking for motivated and observant Pointsmen/Patrollers to join its Regional Operations division. This duty entails active patrolling in defined areas to maintain law and order, ensure public safety, and deter criminal activity in accordance with legislative frameworks such as the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, the National Road Traffic Act, and relevant City of Johannesburg By-Laws. Successful candidates will play critical roles in traffic management, municipal regulation enforcement, and community security.

As of January 29, 2025, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has not launched any fresh recruiting efforts for Pointsmen or Patroller roles. The most recent recruitment for Pointsmen was in 2023, when 200 people were hired to handle traffic congestion in Johannesburg.
JMPD Pointsmen/Patrollers Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Minimum Grade 10 (NQF Level 2)
- Criminal Record: No prior convictions or outstanding criminal prosecutions.
- Additional Qualities: Physically fit, perceptive, and able to operate under pressure in a dynamic law enforcement setting
Key Responsibilities
As a Pointsman/Patroller, you will be responsible for:
- Traffic Management & Control
Directing and controlling traffic flow to guarantee road safety.
Assisting motorists in high-risk regions and during busy traffic
Working with JMPD officers to decrease traffic congestion and infractions. - Community Safety & Public Service
Participate in public safety efforts and community awareness projects.
Assisting crime prevention efforts in accordance with the Batho Pele Principles
Ensuring compliance with municipal regulations through proactive patrolling - School Patrols & Pedestrian Safety
Providing safety assistance at school crossings
Improving the safety of children and pedestrians in high traffic zones
